Corporate Social Responsibility

At BiOS, we endeavor to act as responsible global corporate citizen. Through the performance of environmental sustainability activities and by adhering to ethical codes of conduct, we strive to provide a fair, safe and unprejudiced workplace for our staff, as well as reducing our carbon footprint and impact on the environment.

Workplace Diversity and Inclusion
As a bilingual service provider serving a base of multinational clientele in Japan, the employment of people from a broad range of cultures, languages, and backgrounds is a necessity for our business. At BiOS we strive to find the best talent from around the world and encourage a workplace of equality, mutual respect, and opportunity. At the time of this writing BiOS proudly employs people from over 12 countries across various positions and management levels.
Environmental Sustainability Activities
Waste / Recycling
BiOS cooperates fully with all municipal recycling practices and regulations and a conscious effort is also made to reduce the use of paper and other timber products. Recycled products (paper, ink toner, etc) are also used throughout our workplace wherever possible.
Energy Use
BiOS started an energy conservation program in mid 2008, and have since implemented the following initiatives:
  • • Lighting: All lighting in un-used areas (such as meeting rooms, offices of absent staff, etc), or low traffic areas such as rarely used hallways is kept off. Employees may turn the lights on when using these particular areas; however signage is in place as a reminder to turn the lights off when exiting the area.
  • • Printers/ Multi-function devices: All printers and MFDs are configured to automatically go into power saving/sleep mode when not in use.
  • • PCs: We have implemented an energy-saving system for all of our office PCs.Currently we are using an open-source program called Edison. Thin client technology is also used to create "hot seats" for project engineers and project managers who are in the office sporadically throughout the work week. This reduces the number of physical machines, and power required for the office.
  • • Servers: By utilizing virtualization technology we have reduced the number of servers in production in our datacenter, and therefore total power and cooling requirements.
  • • Switches: All of the switches in use at BiOS are green label (Green Ethernet) devices. This means any un-used ports/ zones are automatically de-activated by the switch to save power.
Supply Chain (Shipping)
As a hardware re-seller we are often responsible for the delivery of various packages to our clients. BiOS has two preferred shipping vendors in Japan which are Sagawa Holdings, and Ricoh Logistics. Sagawa Holdings has a CSR program in place, with a strong emphasis on the environment. Ricoh Logistics also takes environmental sustainability very seriously, and maintains ISO14000 standards.
